About CPCE at IIT Indore
IIT Indore as a Science and Technology Institute is now getting recognized nationally and globally for its academic and research. In this significant achievement, quality of education is one of the decisive factors. Delivering a quality education yields benefits that extend far beyond the classroom into students’ experience and professional life and which in turn brings institute a wider reputation.
Therefore, to improve the quality of education, introduction of various methods of improving teaching-learning process and relevant curriculum development will accelerate the progress of the institute in many folds. In addition, the new education policy (NEP) proposed by the Government of India lays emphasis on a learner centric Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
IIT Indore has taken a strong initiative in the last two years to introduce teaching-learning process and education technology to its faculty especially new faculty members and Teaching Assistants (TA’s) under the supervision of Professor Pramod S. Mehta, who is Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Institute. Prof. Mehta is also a former Professor of IIT Madras and importantly one of the founders of teaching learning center at IIT Madras. Till now, three Faculty Development Programs (FDP) on Pedagogy and Teaching Excellence have been organized in the institute on 21-22 July 2022, 27-30 June 2023 and 7-9 May 2024 with over 50 faculty members of the various departments of the institute participating in them. Organizing FDP activity in 2022 is a result of the initiative of then Dean of Academic Affairs (DoAA), Professor Devendra Deshmukh.
To expand the range of activities related to teaching-learning process and curricular development and also to sustain the momentum, it is an obvious step to establish a dedicated center.
The center for Pedagogy and Curricular Excellence is founded in May 30, 2024 due to the vision of the Director, Professor Suhas S. Joshi. There are primarily three beneficiaries of this center.
Vision
- Introducing various methods of improving teaching learning process and relevant curriculum development will improve the quality of education, and hence will accelerate the progress of the institute in manyfolds.
- Further, the new education policy (NEP) proposed by the Government of India lays emphasis on a learner centric outcome-based education (OBE).
- To fulfil these requirements, establishing a dedicated teaching, learning and curriculum center can be the first step.
Mission
- Equip the teaching fraternity across technological disciplines with robust pedagogical tools and methods tailored to the needs and diversity of present-generation learners.
- Establish structured orientation tracks for graduate and research teaching assistants to refine their communication paths and academic support workflows.
- Systematically upgrade instructional paradigms and design student-centered, attainment-focused approaches to boost student retention, success, and institutional prestige.
